Cyanotype - Reeds
Cyanotype - Reeds
11x14in. Heavy weight acid-free watercolor paper. An original and one of a kind. Signed by the artist along with a signature sewn red ‘X’ that really pops!
What is cyanotype? It is a photographic process harnessing sunlight to produce stunning blue ‘sun photos’. The paper is coated with light sensitive chemicals in a dark room. And then when ready, exposed to sunlight with an object on top of the paper. After a period of exposure, the paper is rinsed in water to stop the process leaving behind a white image where the object was and the sun exposed paper a beautiful deep blue. So many details and shading appear each time. Each piece is very unique and organic - brushstrokes (done in the dark) and movement from the objects laying in the sun brings a whole new dimension. There are so many variables to the process that each piece has something different and special about it. No two are the same even if you use the same objects!
I try my best to display the colors online as accurately as they are in person, but due to monitor calibration and all that jazz, there may be a slight discrepancy.
